 David Bassett founded Amerijet with one leased airplane as a Part 135 air-taxi operator in the U.S. and Bahamas, providing small cargo flights, as well as passenger and air-ambulance charters. He served as Amerijet International’s President and CEO from December 1974 to July 2016.

 
In 42 years, Amerijet became a worldwide carrier with a leading presence in its primary service regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. With a fleet of B-727 and B-767 aircraft along with its many interline partners, Amerijet services over 600 destinations worldwide. Amerijet employs over 800 people and hundreds of agents around the globe.

 
David Bassett has been instrumental in changing much of aviation history in his service regions. He is a great leader on all levels. In 2007 he received the Juan Tripp Award from the GMAA and in 2013 he received the prestigious Wright Brothers Award. These awards are presented to internationally distinguished industry leaders who have made substantial contributions to the aviation and aerospace industry.
